Parsippany Rotary: WHAT IS ROTARY?What would it take to change the world? Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self. Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching their personal and professional lives. A Rotary club contains a diverse group of professional leaders from the community that the club serves. Membership is extremely important to us, and we are always eager to hear from individuals interested in joining our Rotary club. ROTARY is a service organization of business and professional people united worldwide who conduct humanitarian projects, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and work toward world understanding and peace. ROTARY is approximately 1.2 million service-minded people belonging to over 30,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 162 countries. Membership is by invitation. ROTARY meets weekly, not just to eat but to enjoy each other’s fellowship and discuss how they can serve others. ROTARY is compassion for the underprivileged, the underfed and the disabled, many of whom are the beneficiaries of 25,000 service projects conducted by Rotary Clubs in the world each year. ROTARY adds fulfillment to the lives of more than 7000 young people each year of secondary school age as they study in a country other than their own. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION contributes approximately 20 million U.S. dollars to various programs to promote international understanding. ROTARY sponsors INTERACT, over 4,500 service clubs for young people of secondary school age in some 80 countries. ROTARY sponsors ROTARACT, over 4,500 clubs for young adults between 18 and 28 in almost 100 countries. ROTARY began in 1905 in Chicago. The international headquarters in Evanston Illinois, USA and there are branch offices in 7 countries on 4 continents. ROTARY for the last 10 years has been growing at the extraordinary rate of a new club every 18.5 hours.
